1. DAILY OBSERVER NEWS;

Hussein Tajudeen declared Persona Non-Grata
"The government of The Republic of The Gambia has declared Hussein Tajudeen, a businessman, Persona Non-Grata, a press release from the Office of the President revealed.

Tajudeen is said to be engaged in undesirable business activities, which have serious health and economic consequences on the State.

The release reads:
The general public is hereby being informed that Mr. Hussein Tajudeen is being declared Persona Non-Grata by the State and is given 72 hours to leave the country. Mr. Tajudeen has been involved in undesirable business activities which have very serious health and economic consequences to the people and State.

Despite the fact that The Gambia has a liberal economy, the State will not condone greedy and unscrupulous businessmen who are just after their profit margins and not the welfare and well-being of the consumers. Businessmen are advised to strictly adhere to the rules of engagement, in the interest of their businesses, the consumers and the State."

Is this another of those bad business relationships gone bad? Is it another incident where the alleged business man is tied to accused of being tied to terrorism by the West and therefore government must not only act but be seen to Act?

Is this another incident similar to government terminating its diplomatic relationship with Iran because of an alleged arm trafficking? Is this another incident when government without any rationale act on sending this business man out of the country without any legal basis?

Do anybody remember the announcement that government has taken over the properties and businesses of the Libyan Business Men in the middle of the Libyan Conflict only to realize that legally they cannot take over those properties?

Oh Gambia?????? what a sad state of affair..????

FOROYAA BURNING ISSUES NEWS;

"The proprietor of TAJCO, a major importer of basic food commodities, and the chain of supermarkets under the name ‘Kairaba’, Mr. Hussein Tajudeen, has been declared persona non grata by the state and given 72 hours to leave the country, as stated in a release read over the GRTS television evening news on Wednesday,5th June 2013. According to the release, “Mr. Tajudeen has been involved in undesirable business activities which have very serious health and economic consequences to the people and State.”

Mr. Tajudeen, who is of Lebanese descent, is said to have left the country since, as disclosed by workers at the Kairaba Shopping Centre on Kairaba Avenue. When asked what the cause of the deportation was, the workers told this reporter that they don’t know. It was disclosed that Mr. Tajudeen has been one of the major importers of rice, cooking oil, sugar among other basic food commodities. Mr. Tajudeen has joined other prominent businessmen who have already been expelled from the country.

Editor’s Note: We could understand the practice of diplomats being expelled from a country which is often reciprocated by expulsion of that particular country's own diplomats. Foroyaa could not understand the rationale of expelling businessmen when one is calling for an increase in foreign direct investment. The appropriate thing to do if any company flouts with the food safety laws is to take court action against their companies. Foroyaa will continue to investigate what is going on and the Gambia Chamber of Commerce should be a concerned party."

The Point: Published on Monday, October 28, 2013

President Yahya Jammeh has pardoned Lebanese businessman Hussein Tajudeen of Tajco Company Limited with immediate effect, a statement issued by the presidency announced late Friday.
The move comes four months after he was declared persona non grata by the Gambia Government and asked to leave the country.

Tajudeen, said to be one of the main importers of rice, flour and a host of other goods into the country and employer of hundreds of Gambians, was ordered to leave within 72 hours in June, an order he reportedly complied with.

However, in a statement issued on Friday, the presidency announced that President Yahya Jammeh has pardoned Hussien Tajudeen.

“The general public is hereby informed that President Yahya Jammeh has pardoned Mr Hussein Tajudeen (Tajco) who had earlier been declared persona non grata,’’ the statement said.

“Mr Tajudeen is therefore free to return to The Gambia as from the 25th October 2013,” the statement added.
