It has been announced that Maudo Sey, once a member of the legendary Ifang Bondi has passed away. He suffered a stroke while on holiday in the Gambia and was then flown back to Stockholm Sweden where he died at the age of 58. I never had the opportunity to listen to him live but have him on CD and appreciate his singing very much. May he rest in peace.

SOURCE: FOROYAA BURNING ISSUES NEWS
"The Sweden based Gambian musician Mawdo Sey, aka Mao, aged 58 years, who passedaway in Sweden, was finally laid to rest on Saturday,27 April, at the Serekunda cemetery. The funeral ceremony was graced by grieving family members, friends and members of the music fraternity in The Gambia.
A veteran Gambian musician, who settled in Sweden before his demise, Mao was a former vocalist with the then famous Ifang Bondi Band, backing the great musician Paps Touray and later to other dance bands in the Gambia. Mao started his career as a singer of Islamic religious songs in Senegal where he spent time during his early youthful years. He later switched into modern music and had composed many songs both in the Gambia and Europe. Among his many songs is “Chin” or “Toga bu nareh nekh su baheh hetga hegne”, which is a widely featured clip on GRTS television.
Immediately before his untimely death, Mawdo Sey was in the Gambia on holidays and during which visit he suffered a minor stroke. He was however evacuated from the Gambia to Sweden for medical treatment on 18 April 2013.
Unfortunately, Mao could not survive the illness and he eventually passed away in hospital in Sweden. His body was flown into the country on Saturday,27 April 2013 and finally laid to rest on the same day.
According to relatives and friends, the late Mao was a good brother, father, uncle and friend. He was described as a caring, supportive and friendly person. They prayed for him to rest in peace." Written by Mamour M. Mbenga
