at last, they should have been added many years ago. Now it is upto to Gambian tourist aurhtority to make it easy to travel there. a bit of publicity in the local gambian press would help.

Having visited those areas mentioned in the above article in 2004 Jambo. It was the GTA and National Council For Arts and Culture along with the Seneglese authorities who help to register the Senegambian Stone Circles onto UNESCO's World Heritage List.

Jambo, how many tourists do you see reading Foroyaa, Point, The Independent, News & Report, Observer - The Circles are well publicised in brochures, hotels, guest houses and local taxi boards(& through this site - www.gambia.dk) It's never going to be easy travelling to the Stone Circles - for tourists it will be like travelling from London to Devon in hours, and the charges with an overnight stay nearby with their tour operater would be a horrendous rip off. But a few do make it.......Brilliant news that they are on The Heritage List.

The world would be a poorer place if it was peopled by children whose parents risked nothing in the cause of social justice, for fear of personal loss. (Joe Slovo - African revolutionary)

i think now both governments should double efforts to preserve these sites. they're all over the place. in some villages you just find a small number one or two stones.

i saw some in Sare Njai or Soffie can't remember. and kids play around them and it was in the middle of a farm. there is a Met office site just few metres away.
