THREAT OF DEATH AGAINST ABUBAKARR SAIDYKHAN AND BABOUCARR CEESAY THE TERRORISTS ARE OUT OF TOUCH
Foroyaa Editorial: Published on Monday, 29 October 2012
Look at Nigeria. Africans have embraced an Ideology that turns them into murderers of their brothers and sisters. Those linked to the victims also perceive themselves in identities different from Nigerians and Africans and then seek revenge against their own brothers and sisters.
The vicious cycle of violence goes on to the detriment of innocent Nigerians and Africans. Instead of liberty and prosperity, the long suffering African people continue to reap poverty and insecurity. This is why Foroyaa is determined to give every Gambian youth a sense of dignity and self worth so that one would not allow oneself to be transformed into a beast that is fed just to be unleashed to perpetrate violence against the perceived enemies of a master. We are determined to make it clear that ethnically motivated threats are what gave rise to the Rwandan situation. In short, when violence takes a sectarian or ethnic leaning those who are threatened often seek security by calling for sectarian or ethnic solidarity to face their insecurity. The eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth rule becomes the order of the day. If Africans are to rise above failed states, each must become a sovereign person who cannot be used to perpetrate injustice against one's fellow citizens for any sectionalist objectives. That is the only person who could claim to be a patriotic citizen Since the murder of Dyeda Hydara is still fresh in the minds of the people of the world, Foroyaa decided to take up issue with a death treat issued to Abubakarr Saidykhan and Baboucarr Ceesay, which was forwarded to us by those concerned. It is important to mention that threats against journalists are not new. The last case in point affected Abdoulie John that went up to court level and those who conveyed the message to him were on their knees. This is a clear testimony that those who issue such threats are often very naïve citizens who lack self esteem and do issue such threats not out of any patriotic sentiments but out of sycophancy. While Gambians were calling for the head of state to release prisoners and commute all death sentences to life, the least that the people expected is for a death threat to be issued by a person with the nickname "Mofala Jato" (the human killer lion). This coward who would not put his real name referred to Abubakarr Saidykhan and Baboucarr Ceesay "as Unpatriotic Citizens, who want to destroy the image of the APRC Government and our affectionate President Yahya Jammeh." He added the following relevant portions: "You think that you can apply for permit to bring the Tunisian, Egypt, Algeria, Syria and Libya situation here. I will come with my team of patriotic killers who kill for the love of our country and our president. The police are not the best guys to deal with you. I have stepped in voluntarily to kill all of you and if you deny this just ignore my warning. We will get all of you and slaughter you like Tobaski Rams. None of you will escape." Some people are out of touch. They claim to have the interest of the nation and the government at heart but their words and deeds are the factors that set the world against the Gambia and the Government. What is currently happening in Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya and Syria started through the use of armed militias to settle political scores. Killings were followed by revenge attacks until all communities became armed and turned their weapons against each other. Every prominent personality thus retires into a bunker and waits for destiny to take its course. Violence is a common property. No sector of society has monopoly over it. Real patriots are those who want the rule of law to prevail. Those who do not hesitate to take the law into their own hands are interested in the disintegration of the country into fighting factions. They are not interested in the Unity of a country. This is the time for all Gambians to unite against any form of impunity no matter from what quarter it emanates. To fail to do so is to nurture a failed state to the detriment of all.
