That is another nice take from the Daily News Online. Interesting drama unfolding from the Gambia. The truth will always shine no matter how long it takes even if the custodians of the powers that be -be it individuals, organizations or an administration chooses to hide or be transparent.

While we've been at it criticizing some of these judges for their unfair nature from some of the judgments we have seen, I do greatly commend Magistrate Alagbe of the high court for the bold step on this case. I too hope the authorities will comply with such an order.

Best,
Yero

President Jammeh

Saturday, October 06, 2012

In delivering his ruling, in the Gumbo Ali Touray false information case, Principal Magistrate Alagbe of the Banjul magistrates courts recommended for a panel of investigators to look into the credential of Professor Kah the Vice Chancellor of the University of the Gambia. Principal magistrates Aglebe acquitted and discharged accused person who was standing trial for false information.

The trial magistrate added that the actions of the Vice Chancellor were not only wrong but ridiculous in terms of his salary compared to the monthly salary of his predecessor, Professor Stigen, a Norwegian national.

He added that the appointment of Mr Kojo ,a Ghanaian national was not in linewith the UTG Act in terms of condition of services, more so , when Kojo had no accounting background, but instead is an MBA holder.

The court has agrred with the defence counsel the Mr. Touray did not petitioned the President in his capacity as President of the republic, but rather as the Chancellor of the University of the Gambia. Touray was also hailed as a patriot and good citizen of this county.

Touray first appeared before the Banjul magistrate court in August 2011, and he denied all charges against him. Touray walked out of the courts a freed man in October 2012. The million dollar question is will the authorities comply by the recommendations of the presiding magistrate that a panel look in to the credential of the Gambian’s Vice Chancellor?
