A Gamtel insider said the dictator has threatened that if they cannot block Facebook, Freedom Newspaper, and HelloGambia, he will then hire someone who can do the job for him. The Freedom Newspaper and HelloGambia have been blocked in the Gambia, but Jammeh said he wants the blockage to be more tightened so that third party websites cannot be used to access both websites. GAMTEL officials are currently faced with such a dilemma. Jammeh wants to censor the Internet.
There are over seven hundred thousand registered Gambian Facebook users back home, and most of the account owners have been voicing their opposition against the killing of the death row inmates. This is evident on their Facebook profile images, in which they completely darkened to register their outrage at the killings.
