According to the information received by Foroyaa, Mr. Kalley was arrested in his capacity as the Executive Secretary of Peace Ambassadors Gambia {PAG}, who annually organise this summer school mainly for youth to engage in objective and meaningful activities that either directly or indirectly have impact on their lives. The camping is utilised to educate participants to choose a career or improve their careers in life.
This year's theme of the summer school is dubbed, "In the Search of Peace for Africa".It is customary for the association to hold a procession chanting the theme of the camp;
Foroyaa was informed that the Brikama Police acted upon receiving information that some group of youths are on a procession in the streets of Brikama chanting slogans that sounds like "Peace or no peace " and executed the arrest of the head of the organisation. The information added that, the marchers were instead chanting the motto or slogan of PAG, "Give peace A Chance", which was misunderstood by the Police informant.
Speaking to Foroyaa on Thursday 30 August, Mr. Kalley confirmed his arrest, detention and release by Brikama Police and said he was picked up at the college where the camping is taking place. He said the Police questioned him. He indicated that during the course of his interrogation the Police demanded for their banner and a T-shirt, which he gave them. He said he was detained from Saturday afternoon up to 14:00hrs on Sunday, when he was released without any charge or condition. He indicated that the Police are yet to return the banner and T-shirt that was taken from him. He added that the summer school is going on as planned and his arrest has no negative impact on the programme.
The Police Spokesperson, Chief Assistant Superintendent of Police (C-ASP), David Kujabi said his office is not aware of the arrest, detention and release of Mr. Kalley. C-ASP Kujabi said he could not also get to the Police information desk to get any information regarding the matter of Mr. Kalley. He asked the reporter to get back to him today for the Police side of the story.
