The use of British technologies by dictators and repressive regimes in the developing world has been common knowledge since April 2011, when the Guardian reported that Egyptian dissidents had found a proposal document from Hampshire-based Gamma International in the ransacked headquarters of Mubarak's secret police service.
The world would be a poorer place if it was peopled by children whose parents risked nothing in the cause of social justice, for fear of personal loss. (Joe Slovo - African revolutionary)
Thanks Sab.very interesting, and in an ideal world wrong, but as we all know this is not an ideal world it is governed by money and greed, both personal and corporate,if the politicians of the UK were to make the decision not to allow the export of technology as described in the article what would happen ? Every other country in the world capable of making this technology would follow suit and ban its export,of course not they would see a business opportunity that could not be ignored and sell their own product.Take this a bit further,if a total ban could be policed what then ? Big criminal enterprises would take over,so in effect you have an enlargement of the original problem.
