Why has this been extended for another 3 months, simple people haven't bothered to registered, this press release makes it VERY CLEAR that those who fail to register will have their SIM card blocked (that means that their mobile phone number will not work !) a very big blow for all those who live in Gambia who have come to rely on this method of contact with relatives, friends, and those overseas, especially those many Gambians who receive financial help by money transfer. So basically ONLY those who have registered will be able to make and receive calls.Owing to the VERY LARGE number of mobile phone users I bet there will be big problems in making a smooth changeover. Another thought that has crossed my mind is that many Gambians and friends live outside Gambia for most of the year, how are they going to register the local SIM cards that they use when visiting Gambia,? bet that's too difficult for Gambian mobile telecoms companies to cope with,an additional page on their websites,Errrrrrrrr NO, that's far too easy.

All the GSM companies are currently travelling from village to village registering sim cards according to the radio announcements.
I believe there are more people with mobile phones than those with ID Cards. The question is how are they going to register those without ID cards?
A quote from an article regarding ID Cards: Over 300,000 biometric identification cards issued ------------quote------- "a total of 302,637 biometric identification cards have been issued to Gambians from 23rd July 2009 till yesterday Mon 4th June 2012, while 15, 959 non-Gambian ID cards were issued."

"The question is how are they going to register those without ID cards?" the answer is simple Momodou, they won't, no ID card no phone number job done ! they maybe will be travelling with an escort, let's say police, immigration officers, who would be able to deal with associated matters.

Makes sense though, just imagine all those fees that the Gambian Government could rake on ID cards from Gambians and Aliens who thought they didn't need one because they don't travel far they obviously haven't thought of that, still its a great idea to know who is in the country and let them buy their ID cards before the telecom police arrive.
