DAILY OBSERVER NATIONAL NEWS AND EDITORIAL;

WHEN I READ THE POINT NATIONAL NEWS (BELOW) I OBSERVED SOMETHING VERY INTERESTING IN IT(IN TERMS ALLOCATION OF RESOURCE,MANAGEMENT AND PRIORITY); NECESSITATING TO RE-VIEW ARTICLES ABOVE AND RECONCILE MY THOUGHTS WITH THEM

THE POINT NEWS;

DON'T YOU THINK THE "GTBANK HALF A MILLION DALASI DONATED TO THE GAMBIA POLICE FORCE" SOLVE THE PROBLEM OF "TRANSPORT SERVICE" FEATURED FROM DAILY OBSERVER NEWS ON "IGP: A Crime Free Nation"; AS QUOTED BELOW;
quote:
"Transport Service

With regards to the police transport service, IGP Sonko disclosed that this is an initiative taken by the police management team under his leadership. “It is not from the central government neither from an individual. What we did is that we look at it and realised that quiet a number of police officers that come to Banjul do beg for lift. We said that every police should pay an amount of money every month.

I as the IGP, I am paying the highest, ie D200 monthly. So it goes like that to the last constable. At the end of the month we collect at least half of the cost of the vehicle or one third of the cost of the vehicle. So that is what we deposit with the supplier and he will give us a brand new bus. Then we continue paying in the next three or four months. When we complete it, we take another one. In a year we get at least three or four buses and the police officers are very happy with the initiative.

According to him, some years ago most police officers had their files completely stained because of coming to work late and also being charged for offences of absence without leave. He said they decided to look into the issue because if one has three major entries in his/her file, that alone will deter the individual from promotion.

“Some of the lateness are not caused by officers but sometimes you get up as early as 5:00am, you cannot get a vehicle on time and will not arrive in the office until 8:30am. So all these things are put into consideration. Now every police officer arrives in Banjul by 7:30am, they fall in by 7:45am and by 8:00am they are in their respective areas of duty and offices,” he stated."

Kobo, I don't know about "operation bulldozer".. I think a crime is a crime whether committed by the State or Individual t citizens.

But I completely agree with IGP Sonko on the need to help oneself if there is no help available. In Gambia many companies pay transportation fees monthly some as high as D500... If you gather all those funds in an institution like the police, within a couple of years they should be able to purchase their own transportation.

If fact, I also think the President should invest tax payers money that he is given to individual contestants towards public transportation.. If there were buses both for students, police and or other employees, there shouldn't be too much borden on transportation. It is demoralizing for the police to be begging for "lift" from every angle...

Gambians should use our own solutions to address our own lack of resources...

Thanks for sharing though and it is good to be back....
