CODESRIA classified as one of the five best Think Tanks in Africa By Publisher 25-02-12 According to an official statement from its Executive Secretary, Ebrima Sall, the Council for the Development of Research in Social Sciences in Africa (CODESRIA), which is based in Dakar, Senegal, was classified among the 5 most important institutions contributing to the production of knowledge in Africa and the first 30 in the world. This classification results from a study undertaken by the Civil Society Think Tanks and Program of the University of Pennsylvania (United States) which was published in its 2011 edition of the report/ratio classifying Think Tanks in the world. This study, led by more than 300 experts of various disciplines, nationalities and continents, related to more than 6545 Think Tanks located in 182 countries, within the framework of a process lasting for more than eight months, reveals the official statement.
CODESRIA also forms part of the first 30 Think tanks being interested in the questions of development and the use of the social media for the dissemination of information and knowledge. “CODESRIA remains conscious of the many challenges which it must continue to be concern with in the realization its mission. Consequently, it considers the fact of appearing in good place in the classification established by the experts of civil Think tanks and societies program of the University of Pennsylvania as an indicator of the quality of the work which it achieves, but especially an encouragement to persevered in the research of excellence, in the spheres of activities where it intervenes”, explained Ebrima Sall.
