http://thepoint.gm/africa/gambia/article/national-development-takes-priority

At Last the light is beginning to dawn, make Gambia a nation soon !

"Now that the President has been sworn in for another five-year mandate, we are calling on all Gambians, irrespective of political party affiliation, to join hands together for the development of the country.

The development of the country, indeed, requires the collective efforts of all citizens, irrespective of their differences.

We should all work hard in our various professions to move the country forward. "

Toubab1020, what The Point is calling for about collective efforts is not possible. It is Mr Jammeh who is playing the scarecrow. After harming so many people and stating recently that he will harm mamny more, who will be the fool to get near a dangerous president ?

Harming people is bad no one should be harmed, peace should be in everything that goes without saying,I was highlighting what I believe to be a wind of change within all parts of the political spectrum, something that everyone can agree on in Gambia is very rare indeed.

About change, those who crave for change are the same people who drive a hot dagger in the heart of change when it turns on them.

It is sweet talk, when change is addressed by but bitter when addressed to. Yet I still believe in change.

The country cannot be developed through reliance on foreign aid and the perceived riches in the West. It would be extremely difficult to achieve the much-needed sustainable development when our young people are misled into believing that there salvations lies in going to Europe in search of greener pastures often leading them to venture into the illegal migration.
quote:

Greetings Everyone

I agree with the argument the Editor of the Daily Observer cited. For the future security of Gambia it is important that Gambians do have a realistic view of how the West really is. The adverse impacts of illiegal immmigration affecting west and East Africa has been the illegal migration to the West. In particularly the Transaharan routes.
Many Africans have perished in the desert. After being robbed tortured and captured only to be imprisoned or taken hostage for ransoms by armed anarchists of the desert. Many African Nationalities including Gambians have found themselves in this situation and set free to recruit more Gambians. So its not surprising that public awareness needs to raised especially considering the events in Mali. I think It's about time Gambians put aside their differences to concentrate on National unity at a time when there is a fragile situation amongst their neighbours.

It's time for the Subregion to focus on sustainable solutions rather than power greed, envy and division unity is strength. It's only from a standpoint or reconcillion and unity can the subregion prosper despite the threats from outside trying to undermine and distabilize West Africa. Sometimes it is wiser to agree to differ and move forward in unity rather than to infight be fragmented to be weak and powerless at a time when instability from outside forces are attacking your neighbours.

Really Gambia needs to get over ego centred politics wake up and smell the attire and fortify its defenses so it can be more resilent in this time of uncertainity within the subregion. At present Mali is facing attack it was because of its fragile political state that it was over run by foreign extremists. Now Mali is at war!

Gambians really need to reconsider their entrenchments to focus on developing a 21st Century state where there is more progressive dialogue for transvergent views to find solutions rather than rehash old feuds.

Illegal migration is escapism after all one can runaway but wherever you go you must take yourself with you. There have been countless African casualities buried in the Saharan sands who try to make it to the west. Many of their families do not know they had fled the country for one reason or another and still today have no idea where they are. I think it's about time the Gambian Media informed their citizens about the real dangers of illegal migration.

The Sahara is not safe to travel through. Again Gambians have it in their own hands to find a solution to this problem and to assist in shaping their own destinies. For those who escaped to Libya need to come forward and talk openly about their experiences in the desert as victims of armed bandits to prevent others from experiencing such torturous conditions. If Gamabian migrants are going in search of work it is far better for them to make work happen co-opeartively at home.

If you want to hear more about some of the issues I've raised check out my homepage. There are plenty of articles available for you do your research on it coupled with the wealth of information on bantabaa.
