Food shortages, according to the farmers,it APPEARS that maybe later in the year before the next harvest there MAY be big problems due to the weather last year.
I also have also spoken to a farmer in North Bank recently and he is very worried that he may not have sufficient from his harvest to feed his family, let alone pay school fees and other necessary expenses in 2012.

There is no doubt that the cash value of cashew nuts is greater but I think that ground nuts can be used in many more ways than the cashew so is maybe more useful,especially as a substantial part of the affordable Gambian diet is based on the groundnut,even if cashews overtook the groundnut I doubt it many Gambians would be able to use it to such a great extent due to its cost.
