Africa's Fatou Bensouda is new ICC chief prosecutor
By Farouk Chothia 12 December 2011
With the African Union (AU) having been a fierce critic of outgoing International Criminal Court chief prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo, it will be hoping for a better relationship with his successor, Fatou Bensouda - the first African to hold a top post at the ICC..... It's either funny or strange (or both)that none of the usual anti Jammeh contributors to this forum have commented that maybe one of her first jobs should be to prosecute her own president!!! |

i wish her the best of tenure. My fear is that the momentum that was beamed on the African continent will now be shifted as many africans are complaining that its only Africa which was manly on the spotlight. i dont believe its a "Mary Go Round" game, and trust me,they may succeed in defelecting the pressures. While i dont have anything against her appointment, it might be interetsing for gambians to know her judicial philosophy while as Attorney General.
During her time has there been miscarraiages of justice and if so how did she handle them. Until we actually know what makes her tick, we can never say how she will comport her self in this new office. She would have handled a lot of judical cases as she rose through the ranks. It will be interetsting how she argued her cases in court. Until we have that information, we may never know which way she will act.
I trust the great University of IFE from where she graduated from in Nigeria and i belive she has the legal training necessary to hold this job. That i have no doubt. Its a tough job she has and a political one for that matter where interantional politics will once again be knocking on her office door.
She needs to be focused and consistent and always remind herself the mission statement of the ICC anytime she feels pressure. If she does that, she will go down history as the best that ever assumed the mantle of that office. Am proud of her achievements and it makes me happy that she will be appointed. |
