1. DAILY OBSERVER NEWS Hamat Bah resigns from NRP
2. JOLLOF ON-LINE NEWS Hamat Bah Resigns From NRP
"Wednesday, 09 November 2011 22:27
(JollofNews) - Hamat Bah has announced his immediate resignation as leader of the National Reconciliation Party. Mr Bah’s resignation from the NRP is in accordance with section 104 (2) of the elections act which will enable him to contest the coming elections on an independent ticket.
Mr Bah who was earlier last week elected leader of the new opposition alliance, United Front, is expected to file his nomination papers tomorrow at the electoral commission headquarters in Kanifing.
Hamat Bah, a school teacher and hotel worker started his political career in 1996 when he led the NRP in the country’s first multi-party elections after the ban on political activities was lifted. In January 2001, he was elected National Assembly member for Upper Saloum.
In 2001, he contested the presidential election as NRP candidate winning 7.8 per cent of the votes.
In January 2005, Mr Bah's NRP joined four other opposition parties to form the National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD).Soon after NADD was registered as a political party the Supreme Court of the Gambia revoked Mr Bah’s seat in the country’s National Assembly, which he won in 2002, for belonging to two parties at the same time.
In a by-election held in June 2005, Mr Bah lost his seat to Sainey Mbaye of the ruling APRC party.
In 2006, Mr Bah joined an alliance with the UDP in presidential elections which were again won by President Jammeh.
In January 2007, he contested his old parliamentary seat but was again defeated by Sainey Mbaye.

Hamat is acting so opportunistic and unworthy of being a President. First he allowed himself to be used like a Robot both in 2006 and 2011. Sometimes if you want it all, you lose it all!!!
At the very least these actions are dishonorable and reveals a desparate politician trying to find a political nich somewhere!!! Am ashame of him for real!!! |

DISAGREE as his/NRP actions for 2006 was a back-door deal and seen with GMC to support UDP strategy and partisan cause. At last eleventh hour 2011 luck struck for him/NRP to became more mature to be on progressive front with its political decisions to consider what was right (best) for them under two options; i.e a United National Front or rallying and lingering behind UDP? First option is grandeur in strategy than latter! Hamat Bah resigned from his party NRP as a political maneuver; in order to fulfil existing Constitutional requirements for "merger of political parties" and electoral legislation to qualify him leading a United Front (that is independent of his party and other parties of its partners); without any breach of trust and betrayal of goodwill to his party NRP and other citizens that consider him fit to lead! We have exhausted debates and aware what strategy is right or wrong for mobilising a United National Front against Jammeh/APRC and realities on the ground, so why blaming Hamat Bah/NRP on their moves under present circumstances; especially not accepting UDP preying on Hamat Bah/NRP again. Unfortunately its interesting or excellent to see Hamat Bah/NRP testing the constitution ( and setting precedences) for 2006 and 2011!
Remember there is no room to "cross carpet" to another party and what is the justification for other opposition parties to accept to be eliminated, sidelined and/or compelled to rally behind a bossy political party (PARTICULARLY UDP WITH ITS ARROGANT MILITANTS AND BULLYING TACTICS THAT HELD NATION TO RANSOM 2006 AND 2011)? FURTHERMORE AS EVERY CITIZEN MUST DECIDE DESTINY OF NATION, IN 2006 NADD WAS UNIQUE UNDER ONE UMBRELLA AND NOT UNDER ANY POLITICAL PARTY NAME; LIKEWISE 2011 FOR INDEPENDENT UNITED FRONT? THAT'S WHAT I CONSIDER STRATEGY FOR THE GAMBIA OUR HOMELAND; AS "THIS CAUSE IS BIGGER THAN ANY INDIVIDUAL OR GROUP OF INDIVIDUALS" AND ANY PARTISAN CAUSE
WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT WITH THESE CAMPAIGN SLOGANS; "ONE GAMBIA ONE PEOPLE ONE DESTINY"; "OWN YOURSELF, OWN YOUR COUNTRY, SAVE YOURSELF, SAVE YOUR COUNTRY" AND COMPELLED BY DEMANDS OF THE PEOPLE FOR MOBILISATION OF ALL OPPOSITION POLITICAL PARTIES UNDER ONE COMMON FRONT, NEUTRAL UMBRELLA AND POLITICAL PLATFORM WITH A FLAG BEARER TO LEAD A CAMPAIGN TO SALVAGE THE NATION? ANY UNITED FRONT IS BASED ON SACRIFICE, NATIONAL UNITY AND/OR INTEGRTAION, PARTNERSHIP AND SOLIDARITY UNDER A COMMON POLITICAL PLATFORM; BUT NO LEAP FROG OF DEMOCRACY, HOODWINKING, IMPOSITION, SELF-PERPETUATION AND CONSTITUTIONAL COUP!
THANK YOU HAMAT BAH/NRP FOR STANDING FIRM WITH THE MARGINALISED UNDER A COMMON POLITICAL PLATFORM FOR ABOARD OF THE UNITED NATIONAL FRONT IN THE INTEREST OF THE NATION 2011

THE STANDARD NEWS;
"The United Front supported Candidate for the recently concluded 24th November Presidential election, Hon. Hamat N.K. Bah, has now rejoined the National Reconciliation Party (NRP) after resigning from the party earlier in order to contest as an Independent candidate.
According to a Press Release issued by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC), Mr. Bah’s application to join the NRP was accepted by the Party's leadership and that he has in fact been reinstated as the Secretary General and Leader of the Party.
This, the IEC stated, is in accordance with Section 104 subsection 3 of the Elections Act.
Hon. Bah was the Independent Candidate supported by the four opposition political parties that constitute the United Front, namely GPDP, NADD, NRP and PDOIS.
Foroyaa contacted Halifa Sallah of PDOIS for explanation. He said that the United Front comprises member parties but candidature could be sought by any Gambian under any ticket endorsed by a convention of party representatives. He said that Mr. Bah stood as an Independent candidate only to ensure that he represents all parties if elected.
Now that he is not elected he cannot continue to stand in political limbo, says Halifa Sallah. He said NRP is part of the United Front and returning to the NRP does not separate him from the United Front.
Mr Sallah concluded by saying that the development only shows that a convention does not destroy parties, on the contrary, it makes them stronger than ever." Foroyaa
