Wow, and wonders never cease in our Gambia. I agree with this much Mawdo Demba.
[It is now clear that the Presidential elections in November will have a three way race with President Jammeh of the APRC, Ousainou Darboe of the UDP and Hamat Bah of the new opposition alliance contesting the November elections.]---Gainako.

I have great respect for Bah and wish him good luck. I rather vote for Bah than Sallah. However, I firmly believe that Bah cannot unseat Jammeh alone. I appeal for him to join UDP LED ALLIANCE so Oga can be floss out. |

FREEDOM NEWS Breaking News: Gambia: Hamat NK Bah Is The Flag Bearer For Opposition Alliance!
"By Staff Reporter Ebrima Jarju
A successful convention was held in Banjul on Thursday, in which theleader of the National Reconciliation Party (NRP’S) Hamat Bah was elected to lead the coalition of opposition parties in The Gambia. Delegates voted to select a flag bearer, and Mr. Bah happens to be the chosen leader to engage incumbent President Yahya Jammeh in the country’s November 24th polls.
Out of the 212 delegates, who participated on the convention, 118 of them selected Hamat Bah, while Henry Gomez, of the GPDP captured 69 votes, and Assan Martin, a veteran Human rights activist pulled 20 votes. The opposition PDOIS never expressed interest in leading the alliance.
However, three of the votes were declared invalid. The whole process was deemed free, fair, and transparent. For the first time in Gambia’s political history that voters have been availed with the opportunity to select the leader of their choice through the form of a convention. This came in the wake of the failed UDP proposed opposition merger.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the convention, Hamat Bah, the new flag bearer for the coalition, hailed the delegates for giving chance to democracy to prevail in the country.
Mr. Bah said the coalition will live up to its mandate, and come November 24th, there will be a new political dispensation in The Gambia. He appealed to Gambians to turn their back against dictator Jammeh, and elect him as their leader.
Mr. Bah, also talked about the need for the restoration of democracy, good governance, and human rights in this country. He said peace is essential for the country’s political health, and as an opposition Coalition they will do everything in their means to nurture peace in this country.
Mr. Hendry Gomez will serve as vice President under the new coalition. Gomez, Halifa Sallah, and Sedia Jatta also spoke highly about the historic day. They praised Gambians for taking part on the exercise.
For his part, Hassan Martin commented about the high level of bureaucracy in the country. He said if voted the coalition Government will make an end to bureaucracy, gross rights abuses, and maladministration.
Mr. Martin also criticized the rubberstamp National Assembly under Jammeh’s regime, whom he said some of its members came to Parliament through the back door. Martin said the lack of checks, and balances, Government accountability, and the respect for human rights had hindered the nation’s democratic health.
The Human rights lawyer, who is concerned about the plight of inmates in The Gambia, also said the coalition Government will ensure that human rights will be their number one priority if elected into office. The days of illegal arrest, detention without trial, and persecution of Gambians will come to an end if the coalition is voted into office, he said. Mr. Martin, who was applauded by the cheering crowd, said they will not compromise on issues relating to the respect for human rights, Governance, and the rule of law.
Mr. Martin also talked about the need for electoral reforms in The Gambia—that will guarantee all political parties a fair share of the state controlled media. He personally called out the GRTS for its lack of impartiality in covering political activities in the country. He said a coalition Government will make an end to ten days campaign period for political parties. He said parties should be allocated enough time to tour the country to talk to voters about their programs, and policies. Mr. Martin, called on the IEC under the leadership of Mustapha Carayol to remain impartial.
Mr. Martin also wants to see better wages for Government workers, the restoration of democracy in The Gambia, justice, rule of law, and Governance. He said the coalition will ensure that every vote is counted in the coming polls. He also extended an invitation to the APRC for an honest debate by pledging D10,000 dalasi to finance the debate. He challenges Lamin Waa Juwara, Yankuba Colley, and other APRC bigwigs to join him for a debate.
Mr. Martin also warns GAMTEL, GAMCEL, AFRICELL, and other parastatals to stay away from active politics. He said these institutions should refrain from extending financial help to the ruling party to run its campaign, and other political activities."Freedom News |

1. FOROYAA NATIONAL NEWS: GPDP, NADD, NRP and PDOIS United Front Select Flag Bearer At A Convention
"The four opposition parties namely; GPDP, NADD, NRP and PDOIS who formed a United Front and signed an MOU last week have now elected a single candidate at a convention on 3rd November 2011 at the Laico Atlantic Hotel in the Gambian capital, Banjul .
Two hundred and twelve (212) delegates took part in the election and the majority selected Mr. Hamat N.K Bah as their flag bearer for the November 24th polls.
Mr. Bah stood against two other candidates, i.e. Lawyer Assan Martin, an independent candidate and Mr. Henry Gomez of the GPDP.
Mr. Sidia Jatta of NADD who was unanimously accepted as the presiding officer of the elections announced the results.
All the three candidates made speeches at the convention and were asked questions by the delegates to clarify matters before the voting started.
After counting the votes Mr. Sidia Jatta, the presiding officer emphasized that history has been made and there is no loser in this election because they are all in a united front and the objective is to select one among them to be their flag bearer. He said that has been done in a peaceful atmosphere without any rancour whatsoever. He said the verdict of the election should cement their unity and not to erode it. He thanked all for their cooperation and understanding. The results are as follows:
“Mr. Assan Martin who had brought only two delegates polled 20 votes; Mr. Henry Gomez polled 69 votes while Mr. Hamat Bah polled 118 votes. There were 3 invalid votes.
Mr. Bah took an oath before the delegates that he would abide by the conditions stipulated in the MOU.
A motion was introduced that Mr Bah voluntarily reciprocates Halifa Sallah’s gesture of not being a candidate by accepting to stand as an Independent candidate. The motion did not get to the floor for debate.
Foroyaa will find out from Mr Bah what his opinion is on the suggestion for him to stand as an Independent Candidate in order to enable all sides to join his campaign under the same flag, colour and emblem."
