There seems to mixed feelings of sympathy and damnation for Baba Jobe. Some people will not want to forget about his special role of linking Jammeh to Qadaffi and training young Gambians to operate as the revolutionaries by their own term. Others will tell you on humanitarian grounds, he deserved sympathy and last respect. Jobe is no more. He was the link for Jammeh's clandestine arms deals and blood diamond, even banned by UN from travelling on that account. Once very powerful commander of the Jammeh revolution, Baba Jobe was much feared. Today, all that is history.
When Gadaffi died, despite his long years of dictatorial rule, he still had some people paid sympathy and last respect. Baba Jobe too had some sympathy and last respect paid to him.
Was Baba a vital witness to Jammeh's dealings? The two men could say that better. It is however no secret that night is turned to day. |

FOROYAA NEWS;
1. National News : Baba Jobe Passes Away BODY STILL AT THE MORTUARY
2. Editorial : BABA JOBE’S BODY STLL AT THE MORTUARY A GENERAL AMNESTY DESIRABLE
"Baba Jobe is no more. He was seen as a security threat under the first Republic. Hence when the coup d’etat of 1994 became successful he became a staunch supporter of the AFPRC. He became a mobiliser of the youth under the July 22nd movement. It is reported that he studied in Libya and was able to influence the Libyan government to initiate projects in the Gambia.
Baba became a major financier of the campaign of National Assembly members and became majority leader. He was able to arrange loans for many APRC stalwarts.
It was a surprise when he was charged with economic crimes and sentenced to 9 years imprisonment on 29 March 2004. His Lawyer filed an appeal on 6th April 2004.
On 29th October 2011 he died. It is an irony that he died just after Ghadafi had been subjected to brutalities, degradation and murder. The lessons should be drawn for posterity. In relations of convenience there are no permanent friends or foes. There is only permanent interest. When interest converges there is harmony. When they clash the law of the jungle obtains where the fittest survive.
Rumours are rife that the family could not get the body. The hospital authorities we asked claimed that since he was a prisoner they need the signature of a magistrate to release the body. The Coroner’s Act requires a Coroner’s inquest to be done to establish the cause of death of a prisoner.
We will continue to follow this unfolding story to its logical conclusion. However, we are of the view that general amnesty of convicted prisoners is desirable to enable many productive people to earn their liberty to go on to live productive lives."Foroyaa |

FOROYAA National News : No Postmortem on Baba Jobe
"This paper is reliably informed that there was no postmortem conducted on the former APRC stalwart and Majority Leader of National Assembly, Baba K. Jobe, who passed away on Saturday morning at the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) in Banjul where he was admitted, while in prison.
The family of Mr. Jobe was contacted to find out the cause of his death. They informed this paper that they were issued with a death certificate from the hospital, but added that there was no postmortem conducted.
“It is written in the death certificate that he died from hypertension and malaria but no postmortem was conducted,” said the family source.
According to them the remains of Baba Jobe was laid to rest on Monday evening at his birth place at Jarra Karantaba in the Lower River Region. They were asked whether they encountered any problem to get his body from the Mortuary. They said it was a bit hectic for them to go through all the process of paper transactions to release the body to them.
The management of the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) was contacted to find out whether or not any postmortem was conducted. The Public Relation Officer (PRO), Mr. Baboucarr Ngum, said he was busy at a workshop.
However, the Gambia Police Force (GPF) was also contacted to shed light on the matter. The Public Relation Officer (PRO), ASP Mballow, said he cannot comment on the issue. He told the reporter to contact the authorities responsible for the imprisonment of Mr. Jobe. “He was not under our custody,” he said.
Meanwhile, the office of the Director General of Prisons Services was contacted to find out whether or not there was any postmortem conducted. The Director General of Prisons Services said he was preparing to go to a meeting. The Ministry of the Interior was also contacted and the Permanent Secretary said he was engaged."Foroyaa |

3. MAAFANTA WITH Baba Jobe Dead, Appeal to Gambians
"My appeal to Gambians!!! Please please please ................. Please learn, if not from religion, at least from history; that Allah (God) will not spare any one from punishment and humiliation here and after, if the purpose of that persons life is to cause aggravated misery to fellow humans. This appeal is not to Jammeh, already doomed, but to the many aspiring cronies who think they can enforce Jammeh's writ ( usually illegal) on helpless Gambians.
Baba, may his soul rest in peace, was a good family man until he got involved in this madness. He acted like a demigod as one of Jammeh's chief enforcers. As is the case with many of his kinds, it is sad that he has to die this way. Clearly what awaits Yaya may be worse than the calamity that befell his friend and mentor Mr Ghadaffi. But sensible Gambians should not endanger their own prospects and the well-being of their families, by maiming and harming other fellow humans for a scrap of silver, from a soon to be certified lunatic. Life is too short, yet precious. Every person should be able to live life without the constant fear of its sudden and violent termination.
Those helping Jammeh to commit these murders, a hitherto unheard of phenomenon in our once peace loving Gambia, should reflect on the misery they are causing to the families of their victims. These families deserve the right to enjoy the company of their loved ones, just as Jammeh is enjoying seeing his Mohammed and Mariam grow up.
You cannot defy the laws of nature (ALLAH, GOD) to avoid a miserable end, if you spend your life inflicting misery on helpless fellow humans. Jammeh, and like Ghadaffi before him are all doomed for a miserable ending."Maafanta.com - by Modou Kaba Fatty |
