President Jammeh’s Cows Ravage 60-year-old Man’s Findi Farm

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

One Sankung Minteh of Kenbujaye Medina in the West Coast Region of The Gambia has alleged that cows belonging to Gambian president, Yahya Jammeh have destroyed his ‘findi’ farm situated behind the Brikama power plant.

In an exclusive interview with The Daily News on Sunday at his farm, the 60 year old taxi driver cum farmer narrated that the incident took place between the 19th to 20th September 2011.

“I came to know of it about three weeks ago when my wives informed me of it. I am a taxi driver and I hardly have time to visit my farm regularly,” he said.

He added, that his son also told him a similar story when he (his son) returned from the farm one day.

“He said Dad you don’t have anything to harvest from you ‘findi’ farm because everything there is destroyed,” he said.
According to him, he is not looking for any compensation of sort from the president, but rather for him to be aware of the incident.
“All what I want is for the herdsmen to be vigilant at all the times and control the animals. They are destroying crops around that area,” he said.

Minteh added that the cattle are stationed at Farato but they do travel through the forest to their farm lands in Brikama.
He said his ‘findi’ farm is 40 by 30 and that all his hope is dash to zero. “ I cultivated the ‘findi’ farm for my family but you see what God decides at the end of the day. I left everything in God’s hands, he said.

“When I reported the matter to the guards at Farato, they told me that is not their area of business. And unfortunately for me, I did not also met the herdsmen too,” he said.

Sad looking Minteh further stated that he just want the president to aware of what has happened to his ‘findi’ farm.
He revealed that he has also cultivated some corn, maize and beans on a separate farm and they are doing well.

“You know is not easy when talking about something that has to do with people with powers. So am appealing to him the (president) to see how best in future such unfortunate incident could be stopped.
