I read this in the Observer, Hmmmmmmmm, hang on.......this is the classic chicken and egg situation, which came first, the chicken or the egg, why do I say that? again VERY SIMPLE,cashew trees take a good few years to reach maturity and therefore only at that time can they make cashew production an effective crop,at that time talk about processing plants and associated buildings and factories, why on earth contemplate building something that will be obsolete when full production of the crop will take a few years,MAYBE farmers should be encouraged to plant cashew as a crop, but you cannot live on cashew nuts or fruits you can however live on groundnuts. I think that maybe this conference is about how to obtain loans in order to build factories or buy machinery,if the speeches at the conference are reported that would make interesting reading for me at least ! Why do I think that ,I think that here are the rich investors:

"Speaking to the Daily Observer about this forthcoming event, Professor Darrly R.O. Prevost, the president of the African American Diaspora Alumni Clubs and the executive director of Cadia Institutes and Academies, spoke about the bold commitment attached to this event by the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), an international trade which is managed by the US Department of Commerce, aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of international trade."

Gambia to host 6th African Cashew Alliance conference
Africa » Gambia
Wednesday, September 07, 2011

The Gambia will be hosting the continent’s 6th edition of African Cashew Alliance conference (ACA) scheduled to take place from 19th -22nd, September 2011. The African Cashew Alliance conference is a global event that generates enormous interest from vast majority of agricultural traders particularly cashew sellers.

The Gambia, which is relatively a new comer in the world of cashew business, will have the opportunity to revive its cashew productivity with a view to boosting the cashew production so as to become a major cashew exporter in the coming years. Records have indicated that The Gambia and her neighbours such as Guinea-Bissau and Senegal together produce only 9% of the world crop including cashew exportation.

This year’s ACA conference will create a concrete platform for the cashew world to incentivize cashew processing with a view to making The Gambia an excellent location to build and expand businesses and then start investment for a more sustainable economic advancement. The conference is also expected to offer more networking platforms, new social events and the launch of the first world cashew exposition, which is also expected to feature processing machinery and material suppliers for the processors, farmers, and roasters.

Speaking to the Daily Observer about this forthcoming event, Professor Darrly R.O. Prevost, the president of the African American Diaspora Alumni Clubs and the executive director of Cadia Institutes and Academies, spoke about the bold commitment attached to this event by the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), an international trade which is managed by the US Department of Commerce, aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of international trade.

According to him, AGOA would help to link The Gambia to the international market during the cashew conference. He added that Gambian farmers would also be trained on very important trading issues such as food science and exportations, among a host of other relevant trading techniques.

He further dilated on the need for Gambian farmers to participate in international trade fairs and capacity building workshops, saying it would help improve the yield of agricultural products such as cashew.
