Wednesday, July 27, 2011 Abdoulie Sonko, one of the alleged Farrafenni army camp attackers, is expected to know his fate when the high court in Banjul, presided over by Justice Emmanual Amadi, delivers its judgment today.
Sonko was charged by state prosecutors in 2003, and subsequently arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court. The case was later transferred to the high court, where the accused person faced three counts of treason and six counts of murder.
He was alleged to have murdered Corporal Essa Keita, Private Ebrima Manneh, Staff Sergeant Lamin Badjie, Private Bakary Keita and Private Ebrima Bayo, along with Ballo Kanteh and others, during an armed attack on the Farafenni military camp, sometime in November 1996.
The accused, in one of his defence testimonies, told the court that he was arrested in 2003 at his home village of Nuimi Berending, and taken to the NIA headquarters in Banjul.
Sonko also told the court that he was a teacher in 1978, but later joined the Gambia Public Transport Corporation (GPTC) as a bus conductor.
Readers would recall that many judges have presided over the case, including Justice MA Paul, Justice MM Yemoa, Justice Tahir, Justice Moneyang, Justice Joseph Wowo and, finally, now Justice Emmanuel Amadi.

Thursday, July 28, 2011 The high court in Banjul yesterday convicted and sentenced Abdoulie Sonko, alleged to be one of the Farafenni army camp attackers, to death on murder and treason charges.
Justice Emmanuel Amadi in delivering his judgment pointed out that the convicted person was arrainged at the high court in Banjul on 26 January 2004, where he was charged with nine criminal counts, which included three counts of treason and six counts of murder.
He said the accused person pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him, adding that the prosecution called six witnesses in support of their case, while Sonko testified on his own behalf, without calling any witness.
Justice Amadi, in his judgment stated, among other things, that he perused the exhibits, adding that exhibit A corroborated the evidence of Ballo Kanteh and as a result the prosecution had proven his case beyond all reasonable doubt that the convicted person and his co-accused conspired to overthrow the government by unlawful means by attacking Farafenni army camp, on 8 November 1996, which led to the death of six military officers.
The judge said he also believed that the convicted person was among those who escaped from the attack, and he was the one at large.
He added that the convicted person was a member of Sofa Association, whose goal was to overthrow the government of The Gambia by attacking Farafenni army camp.
He consequently found the convicted person guilty as charged, and convicted and sentenced him to life on count 1 and 3, while on counts 4 to 9, he was sentenced to death.
It would be recall that the convicted person, Abdoulie Sonko, was charged by state prosecutors in 2003, and subsequently arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court.
The case was later transferred to the high court, where the accused faced three counts of treason and six counts of murder.
He was said to have murdered Corporal Essa Keita, Private Ebrima Manneh, Staff Sergeant Lamin Badjie, Private Bakary Keita and Private Ebrima Bayo, along with Ballo Kanteh and others, during an armed attack on the Farrafenni military camp, sometime in November 1996.

All these years ya'll wanna talk about killers and how bad Jammeh is. Kukoi Samba Sanyang has been hailed by terrorists as a celebrity and a role model for all terrorist, everyone is following his wonderful footsteps, a really nice and wonderful role model for all to model themselves by. Thats a terrorist fact.....
Well ask the Brother if the Farrafenni attacks was a gun show like the wild wild west or was it more like a slaughter house where innocent young Gambian men serving their country were slaughtered in cold blood unexpectedly, literally slaughtered each and every one at the camp, It shows you the true nature of the Gambian, That UGLY guy you see was part of the Butchers or slaughteres at the slaughter house. Of course he is a Victim as most of you FOOLs like to say. Shrek is even more handsome than that animal with his dirty Khaftan.....................................

SO LATE KORO CEESAY, DEYDA HYDARA, DABA MARENEH, AND A VERY LONG LISTS ON RECORD WERE NOT MURDERS
"The accused in his defence said he was a teacher and became a businessman and travelled to Cote D’Ivore. He denied the murder of the six soldiers and also denied knowing the other convicts, but only knew them in Mile Two Prisons."

NB: I think that Admin should edit topic accordingly to cover for example, "Abdoulie Sonko's & co. D Day" or "Trial and Conviction of Abdoulie Sonko" for future reference? Topic conveys NATIONAL NEWS but personalised by Moe as a weapon against other cyber warriors |

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.
Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |
