What shock would they see in either Kotu or Fajara???? Hardly the "poorest area of the Gambia" as stated on last night's show. However, you could see that it would be a load of twaddle from the get-go ... I mean if you really only do 5* holidays (as this foursome said at the very beginning of this naf programme) then why on earth would they even be contemplating/be recommended the Gambia from the off?? Something distinctly fishy about the whole set-up and I'm not speaking about Tanji ;D
I also laughed at the voiceover recommendation that if you are into eco-travel then you should think about staying at Sandele Eco Lodge (http://www.sandele.com/ for those who are unfamiliar with this) which to my mind is just swapping one type of luxury accommodation for another.
I could go on and on it was so bad!!!!! The 'real' Gambia wasn't even acknowledged let alone shown ....

In my opinion, there are 'tourists' and 'travelers'. They are different. Many visitors are Gambia, especially those who come with one of those package programs are not really interested in seeing 'real' Gambia anyway.
The real Gambia. The best way to experience the real Gambian experience would be travelling beyond Brikama. Even Brikama as a city is giving much better opportunity for travelers to explore. |
diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.
Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |

Anyway....Those who understand things figuratively rather than literally would get what I mean with tourist vs traveler comments. |

Know exactly what you mean Turk. In the 70's I was travelling through West Africa from Ghana to Nigeria. No rush,no hotels but plenty of military coups. Met fellow 'travellers' with great stories to tell.Best time of my 'younger' life. |

I did not exist that time. It is great to hear that rassimian. Now, I am trying to brainwash my daughter :) and hope she will be adventurist as well. Hey, I would like you to post some of these stories here, I love 'travel/adventure' stories.
