It's that time of year again - application forms can be bought now at GTTI - interviews are beginning soon.
I expect the same is true for other colleges.
I also hear that WAEC are promising to release grade 12 results earlier this year - will wait to see!

Lily,I think that the WAEC hand on exam results is excellent and has been worked on a great deal I suspect from its inception far better that the "OLD" Gambian way of dealing with results, where many people had a finger in the results pie ! |

thank you lily, i am sponsoring a student to go to GTTI,the situation in Gambia regarding enrolment and school results is a shambles. It has not improved, they were meant to have interviews in June, but for some of the students they did not get results in time so the interviews have been postponed. Why is it like that

I don't know for certain but I SUSPECT that the OLD way was like a bonus for many Gambians in the education system and it has taken them a little time to break the new system and make it work to their advantage,I doubt if anybody will be able to isolate the real cause, but as you have found from your personal involvement attitudes have not changed within the education system with poor salaries being paid even now.

Jambo - I think the marking of grade 12 scripts takes longer than you might think and so this delays acceptance at GTTI. They "sell" the enrolemnt forms in July and August and then there are interviews and then there is acceptance. But - overall GTTI doesnt start until mid September so most of it is sorted out at the last moment. You are right that it is a shambles - but I teach in a college in the UK and I still don't know who I will teach in the second week of September - so they are not in much more of a shambles than we are!!
Toubab - I have no idea what you mean by OLD way and NEW way - have been doing this for 15 years now and it's pretty much the same.

Lily, you know much more than I do not being in the teaching world, I was commenting on the way that some exam results were "obtained" by students prior to the internet results that students now use,as I have been lead to understand ,it was common practice for students or their families to have to pay unauthorised "fees" in order to get the official results papers, otherwise there would be LONG delays, if I have been misinformed and this never never happened and everything was above board I apologise unreservedly, as I wrote I am not in the teaching world like yourself.

Hey lily. What do you teach? |
diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.
Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices. |

I teach about the Media - which actually does mean just about everything! A bit of IT, English, politics, sociology, history, development studies, psychology, geography - all come in to it. I use film and telelvsion, news and advertising, magazines and music - students love it. (And no - we don't just watch TV all day!).
Don't worry Moe - I think bantaba does a great job of keeping out identities hidden. |

It is great field. I love social science and teaching which is more of social. I am trying to satisfy myself by volunteering in teaching in Gambia (And before other parts of the world). I am in IT field which is very boring, and I don't really like my job. I mean I can't be proud about myself about what I am doing, considering that I am helping corporations to be more efficient so they can fire more people. Shameful. Lol.
When I decided to live Europe, I decided to go with technical field thinking that it would be easier transition in terms of education and career because English is not my first language. I would have loved to be in social science, law, history etc. Sometime I consider a career change but I depend on my salary so much with family responsibilities, it is not going to happen.
