Does being religious equate to being Muslim then Janyanfara ? I experienced a challenging situation in Gambia that implies anyone not being Muslim is not religious. Can you throw some light for clarity. In fact some people go as calling anyone not Islamic as being Kaffir.

Interesting, Africans and their endless quest larger-than-life titles. I guess it is practical to have titles in a continent of "do you know who I am?"

It would be prudent that these folks let the old man retire gracefully. Some men in Gambia do NOT like to share the limelight.

My advice to sir DKJ too. Don't get entangled in the Titlesmylitis syndrome. It's contagious.............lol!

I agree with Prince. They should leave the old man alone. If they really want to honor him they can do it in many other ways than giving insignificant titles.

Calling someone sheikh has everything to do with the Islamic faith. But beside the point, I was misunderstood Jawara and Yahya were both christians turned muslims.Thats all I said.Anybody can digest it into what you think. Its a debate isn't it.
Calling Yahya Jammeh Sheickh was wrong for he has blood on his hands.
How about calling Jawara sheickh?
The name sheickh ul Islam is a very high title.That person has to be free from all.

GAINAKO ON-LINE NEWS Video Link to Sir Dawda's Resignation at Mansakonko before 1992 Elections

DAILY NEWS WITH Tears of Joy as Jawara Graces AGERA Gambian July 4 Reunion in Atlanta

After all the controversial debates associated with Jammeh's accolades, the "Sheikh" title granted to Sir Dawda K. Jawara (OUR ELDERLY STATESMAN AND FATHER OF THE NATION) is a political mockery to him? However the current oligarchy (backed by our powerful Supreme Islamic Council, State House Mosque Imam amongst other elders/Imams) may have seen a lot that Jammeh invested to exploit opportunism, patronage and donations in building of mosques (from State House - Banjul to Koina),on-going annual free hajj muslim pilgrimages (for thousands since elected President), qu'ranic recitations, sponsorship, handouts/benefits to certain powerful Imams benefits inter alia to justify titles granted; notably "NOOR RU DEEN" (LIGHT OF THE RELIGION)

WHO IS MORE DESERVING? TALES FROM AFRICA CAN HELP UNDERSTAND IT! IN WOLLOF VERNACULAR "NYARI KUYE DUUNY BOKA BENNA MBALKAH!" ALSO KING OF LAND JUNGLE TERRITORY LION GRANTED FULL-AUTHORITY FOR EAGLE TO RULE THE SKIES FOR HIS DISTINGUISH SERVICE TO ANIMAL KINGDOM AND DUE TO NATURES WAY

IN FAVOUR: REFER ON LATEST NEWS AS EXAMPLES;

1. Imam of Pirang birthday messages for President Jammeh

2. Gambia: Basserians Take Ownership

AGAINST AND THE CONTROVERSIES: RELATED Religion in Politics can be more DANGEROUS?

ALLAH IS BEST JUDGE!
