FOROYAA REPORTS - TWO CANDIDATES NOMINATED FOR WULI EAST BY-ELECTION - UNDER http://www.foroyaa.gm/modules/news/article.php?storyid=6659
NOTE:-
1. "The APRC candidate, Saidou V. Sabally, submitted his nomination papers and other relevant documents to the Returning Officer, Alieu Momar Njie at the IEC Regional Office in Basse. Mr Sabally was accompanied by Mr Edward Gomez, Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Mr Jato Sillah, Minister of Forestry, Mr Yankuba Colley, the Mayor of the Kanifing Municipality and National mobiliser of the APRC, Mr Omar Khan, the Governor of the Upper River Division, Mr Demba Sanyang, the Paramount Chief and all the chiefs of Upper River Region and Lower River Region and a large crowd of supporters of the APRC accompanied the candidate to submit his nomination papers."
2.".The NADD candidate, Suwaibou Touray, submitted his nomination papers and other relevant documents to the Returning Officer at the scheduled time of 2.30 pm. He was accompanied by a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters, both men and women, who sang songs of enlightenment as they marched from the ferry terminal to the Regional Office. After the nomination they marched in the same manner to the ferry terminal."
3. "This reporter observed that the seat would be a hotly contested one."
4. "After the nomination of the two candidates, the returning officer asserted that though nomination papers were collected by only the two candidates , they are required by law to wait up to 4 o’clock before the closing of the nomination. This reporter gathered at the IEC Headquarters that up to 4 o’clock no other candidate appeared for nomination. Hence Mr Saidou Sabally and Mr Suwaibou Touray became the only candidates for the by election. The information received by this reporter that the opposition in Wuli East irrespective of party affiliation refused to accept any party putting up any candidate other than Suwaibou Touray is now proven to be correct. A people´s Alliance has therefore emerged in Wuli East on the side of the opposition. For all intent and purposes this by election is a contest to be closely monitored. "
