My beloved (Prophet Muhammad) by Anonymous
"There was a time in my youth, When Islam was only a custom. They said "say La IIaha IIIa Allah,.. And pray, you'll go to Heaven."
Ah, how simple, no struggle in this, Just a word, and simple act. Thereafter I'm absorbed in this world again, With my 'assured' place in Paradise intact.
But this was not to be my fate For ALLAH chose to guide my heart. I learnt of a man who struggled so hard When his mission was from the start.
Spoke gently, kindness he knew. Never fearing to say what's right, His conviction in ISLAM was true.
The touch of his hand was as soft as silk To comfort a crying child. To mend his clothes, or do the chores, Never complaining, he always smiled.
A living he made with his bare hands, The same that held his mighty sword. Valour shone from the edge of his blade,
His smell was always of musk, And cleanliness he kept at his best. Stark contrast with the heroes of today, Who stink of beer and sweat.
He held the hands of his companions. Unashamed to play with many children. So modest, so humble, a perfect example, That strangers could not recognise him.
His eyes slept little for nights were precious, His prayers he treasured much greater. To pray Tahajjud in the depths of night, Seeking forgiveness, and nearness to his Creator.
He broke his tooth for me at Uhud, And bled for me at Ta'if. He cried for me, tears of concern, Just so I could have this belief.
His enemies admired his teachings, Uniting every religion, every clan. Till ISLAM came to every corner of the world, O, but indeed he was only a man.
To own a house, or build his wealth Was not his main priority. To establish ISLAM was more essential, To bring us under a Higher Authority.
Don't you want him to plea for your case, When before ALLAH-The Judge-you stand? Don't you wish to be around his fountain, A burning desire to drink from his hand?
So I love him more than all creation, My Leader, my Humble Prophet. Muhammad (SAWS) was a mercy to all mankind, And to me, he is ... MY BELOVED!"

NOTE FUNDAMENTAL MORALITY & LEGALITY! "Islamic scholars are divided on whether observing Mawlid is necessary or even permissible in Islam. Some see it as a praiseworthy event and positive development, while others say it is an improper innovation and forbid its celebration." Wikipedia
IT IS INTERESTING TO SHARE WITH US AS A MUSLIM WHY YOU DON'T CELEBRATE? WE ALREADY UNDERSTAND DIFFERENT SCHOOLS OF THOUGHTS BUT THIS IS A LONG STANDING TRADITIONAL ANNUAL SOCIAL AND CULTURAL FEAT ACROSS MUSLIM UMA; ESPECIALLY WITHIN SUB-REGION?
ITS A GOOD TRADITION WITH POSITIVE IMPACTS THOSE TENTS, HOURS OF PRAYERS, RECITATIONS OF HOLY QURAN, INSPIRING TEACHINGS OF LIFE OF HOLY PROPHET, REJOICES, TRIBUTES OBSERVED AND PRIDE OF ISLAM STANDING OUT WITH MILLIONS WILL NOT GO IN VAIN I PRAY TO BE PART OF THE CELEBRATION AND SHARE THE BLESSINGS WITH THEM! AMEEN!

Right Kobo. I follow the writings of Serign Touba, I happen to have a friend who studied in Sudan, he has many of his books. However, my reservation is to do with over praising the Prophet. He objected to it. The Burda you mentioned some time ago is one such cuppulet. It is excessive in the praise of Rasulah. This is why, many scholars object to it. What is Sunnah is so clear and easy to follow, we don't require Jesusising our Prophet. He rejected his companions standing up him, over praising him etc. And the Maulid is one such event. It is a remarkeable show of praise. An unnecessary event, since to take Muhammad as your guide only require observing his Sunnah, no need for special days of commemorations. |

WITHOUT OUR GRAND MASTERS OF ISLAM AND THESE MAULUD NABI CELEBRATIONS WITH WONDERFUL LITERATURES TO INSPIRE AND MOTIVATE LOVE FOR PROPHET MUHAMAD (MPUH) ISLAM WOULD NOT HAVE RESOUNDING SUCCESS STORY WITHIN SUB-REGION; ESPECIALLY SENEGAMBIA
THERE ARE VARIOUS FORMS OF COMMUNICATION MEDIUM, METHODS, PSYCHOLOGY AND PEDAGOGY FOR EDUCATION / INDOCTRINATION OF THE MASSES; ESPECIALLY CLIMBING THROUGH SPIRITUAL LADDER OF ISLAM THERE MUST BE AN AUTHORITATIVE QURANIC/ISLAMIC TEACHER TO TRANSMIT THE MESSAGES TO THE STUDENTS (PEOPLE WORLD WIDE) THOSE GRAND MASTERS ARE MERELY THE POWER STATIONS THAT GENERATES THE LIGHT ON ISLAM WITHIN SUB-REGION! IT IS THROUGH THESE MAULUD NABI (GAMO) RITUALS/GATHERINGS THAT WE WERE TAUGHT LIFE OF HOLY PROHET AND DEEDS OF OTHER PROPHETS (i.e. "SEERA YO NEEN TA BI"). MANY CAN NARRATE LOTS ABOUT THE PROPHET ACQUIRED FROM "GAMO" WITHOUT ANY FORMAL ARABIC OR QURANIC KNOWLEDGE! MAULUD NABI ARE PART OF THOSE METHODS OF TRANSMITTING MESSAGES OF ISLAM; ON A POSITIVE NOTE! YOU MAY CONSIDER THOSE GATHERINGS FOR INFORMAL CONFERENCES
THERE ARE ALWAYS BOUND TO BE NEGATIVE CRITICISMS AND CONTROVERSIAL MINDS/OPNIONS; IN WHATEVER MAN DOES YOU GOT IT WRONG ON THE BURDA FOR THERE ARE NO EXCESSIVE PRAISES FOR PROPHET MUHAMAD (HUMBLE SERVANT OF ALLAH); EXCEPT IF HE IS CONSIDERED GOD, SON OF GOD, EQUATED WITH GOD ETC("SIRK") |

Kobo, this is why, I said no comment because what one is into, there will always be a thousand and one reason why such is valid. In fact i have meet Gambians who were into it so much, but with hindsight, they have ceased to observe it. I have attended many a Gamo Kobo, me know this things. However, for me, Islam is what the Prophet Muhammad did, not what scholar X, saint Y or poet so and so scrible. Did the Prophet Muhammad ordered that, people celebrate his birth day? Did any of his companions did it? No. when did this practise began? There are a thousand and one sunnah and the most powerful is Tahajud/kiyamu lalel (waking up at night when no one sees or hears you and offer your solemn prayer. This are the strongest and the highest of Sunnah. Hence, celebratng the Prophet in a public show on his birth day was never known. There is Salatul Tasbi which bear much more reward. However, in this matter, I am not arguing, you are a very intelligent brother who loves Islam and Rasulah, I'll happily leave you to it. Thanx |

However, in this matter, I am not arguing, you are a very intelligent brother who loves Islam and Rasulah, I'll happily leave you to it. Thanx YOU ARE OUT OF ORDER PLEASE! I DID NOT IMPLY THAT ONLY HIGHLIGHTED THE POSITIVES AND HOW I UNDERSTAND THOSE SPIRITUAL RITUALS FOR OVERTIME WAGES, EXPANSION AND DEVELOPMENT OF ISLAM ITS BASED ON FAITH THAT MAWLID NABI AS ANOTHER SOURCE OF POWERFUL TIMING OF SPIRITUAL PRAYERS IN REMEMBRANCE OF LIFE AND TEACHINGS OF PROPHET? THE TALIBEHS WILL CONTINUE WHAT THEIR TEACHERS TO GUIDE THEM THROUGH RIGHT PATH AND OBSERVANCE OF MAWLID PASS ON TO FUTURE GENERATIONS; JUST MY THOUGHTS!
ISLAM FUNDAMENTALLY HAS VARIOUS SCHOOLS OF THOUGHTS; INCLUDING "SUNNI", "SUFISM", "SALAFI", "WAHAABI", "SHIA", "HANNAFI", ETC. ALSO NOTE THAT MANY "SUFI" AUTHORITY CLAIMED PRACTISING "SUNNA" THE COMMON GROUND IS TEACHINGS AND WAY OF LIFE OF PROHET, QURAN AND "HADITH".
FOR WHATEVER HAPPENS AND ANY DEMERITS WE (WITHIN SUB-REGION) WE ARE MERE VICTIMS OF CIRCUMSTANCES THAT SURROUNDS ISLAMIC DEVELOPMENTS AND MOVEMENTS
THANKS IMAM! CONGRATS FOR BEING ON TRACK TO KNEW BETTER THAN ME ON THIS TOPIC (EXCEPT LOSING YOUR EMOTION OR OVER REACTIONS)! |

Wednesday, February 16, 2011 Mawlid al-Nabi (the Prophet’s birthday)
Praise be to Allaah.
There is nothing in the Qur’aan to say that we should celebrate the Mawlid or birthday of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). The Prophet himself (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) did not do this or command anyone to do it, either during his lifetime or after his death. Indeed, he told them not to exaggerate about him as the Christians had exaggerated about Jesus (upon whom be peace). He said: “Do not exaggerate about me as the Christians exaggerated about the son of Maryam. I am only a slave, so say, ‘The slave of Allaah and His Messenger.’” (Reported by al-Bukhaari). What has been reported is that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) made the day of his birth a day of worship, which is different to celebration. He was asked about fasting on Mondays, and he said: “That is the day on which I was born and the day on which I was entrusted with the Mission or when I was first given Revelation.” (Reported by Muslim, al-Nisaa’i and Abu Dawood).
Moreover, we know that the Sahaabah (may Allaah be pleased with them) were the people who loved the Prophet most. Was it reported that Abu Bakr, who was the closest of people to him and the one who loved him the most, celebrated the birthday of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)? Was it reported that ‘Umar, who ruled for twelve years, or ‘Uthmaan, did this? Was it reported that ‘Ali, his relative and foster son, did this? Was it reported that any of the Sahaabah did this? No, by Allaah! Is it because they were not aware of its importance, or did they not truly love the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)? No one would say such a thing except one who has gone astray and is leading others astray.
Did any of the imaams – Abu Haneefah, Maalik, al-Shaafi’i, Ahmad, al-Hasan al-Basri, Ibn Seereen – do this or command others to do it or say that it was good? By Allaah, no! It was not even mentioned during the first and best three centuries. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said in a saheeh hadeeth: “The best of mankind are my generation (or my century), then those who come after them, then those who come after them. Then there will come a people who will not care if their testimony comes before their oath or vice versa (i.e., they will not take such matter seriously).” (Reported by al-Bukhaari, Muslim and al-Tirmidhi). The celebration of the Prophet’s birthday appeared many centuries later, when many of the features of true religion had vanished and bid’ah had become widespread.
Thus this celebration became a sign of one’s love for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him)? But can it be possible that the Sahaabah, the imaams and the people of the best three centuries were unaware of it, and it was only those who came later who were aware of its importance?! What the Qur’aan tells us is that love of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is demonstrated by following the guidance he brought. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Say (O Muhammad): ‘If you (really) love Allaah, then follow me, Allah will love you and forgive you your sins. And Allaah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.
Say: ‘Obey Allaah and the Messenger.’ But if they turn away, then Allaah does not like the disbelievers.” [Aal ‘Imraan 3:31-32]
The first aayah explains that love is just a claim, but the proof of sincerity is following what the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) brought. The second aayah reaffirms the importance and necessity of obeying Allaah and His Messenger. Hence Allaah ended the aayah with a very stern warning in which those who refuse to obey are described as kaafirs, and Allah does not love the disbelievers. We ask Allaah to keep us safe from that. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) told us of the danger of not obeying him, and the danger of adding to what he brought. The celebration of Mawlid or his birthday is indeed an addition to what he brought – as all the scholars agree. He said: “The best of speech is the Book of Allaah, and the best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad. The most evil of things are those which are newly-invented (in religion), and every innovation is a going astray.” (Reported by Muslim and al-Nisaa’i).
We ask Allaah to protect us from bid’ah and to bless us by helping us to follow. Allaah knows best. May Allaah bless our Prophet Muhammad. Islam Q&A Sheikh Muhammed Salih Al-Munajjid http://blog.onlyislam.net/ |
