Monday, January 03, 2011 Charges have been filed at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court against former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Marie Saine-Firdaus, and the Managing Director of Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation (SSHFC), Edward Graham. Edward Graham, who has vehemently denied the charges, was arraigned on Friday 31st December 2010, charged with economic crimes. Marie Saine-Firdaus, was reported to be absent from the court, during Friday’s proceeding. The charge sheet on count one stated that Edward Graham, in 2009 at Banjul, being the Managing Director of the SSHFC, corruptly abused his office to wit: directed Home Finance Company Limited to pay the sum of Eight Hundred and Eighty Thousand, Two Hundred and Fifty Dalasis (D880, 250) to Marie Saine-Firadus without the necessary collateral. Count two read that Edward Graham on 2nd September 2010, at Banjul, being a citizen of the Gambia caused financial loss to the Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation, a public body, by waving interest on mortgages in breach of the Housing Finance and Development Corporation Act, 2010. Count three stated that Edward Graham, in 2009 at Banjul, within the jurisdiction of the court, being Managing Director of Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation, wilfully caused a loss to Home Finance Company Limited, a public body, by directing it to grant a loan to Marie Saine-Firdaus in a manner and on terms detrimental to the economy of the Gambia. Count four also stated that Marie Saine-Firdaus, in 2009 at Banjul, being a citizen of the Gambia collaborated with Edward Graham, Managing Director of Social Security and Housing Finance Corporation to intentionally and corruptly obtain D880,250 from the Home Finance Company Limited in a manner and on terms detrimental to the economy of the Gambia. Defence counsel Amie Bensouda, in applying for bail on behalf of the accused person, told the court that the alleged offence committed is a bailable one. She said taking cognisance of the fact that bail was at the desertion of the court, the defence would therefore urged the court to grant the accused person bail. Senior counsel Bensouda further told the court that his client was travelling to the United Kingdom for an eye operation, and was issued a police clearance and a leave letter to travel to the UK for the eye operation by his office. She said her client is a responsible public servant, who had served and worked for more than 20 years. He stressed that during the 20 years, he rose through the ranks until he became a Managing Director of Social Security and Housing Corporation. Counsel Bensouda quoted section 8 of the Economic Crimes Act, which provides that the court may grant bail in certain circumstances as required by the court. She submitted that there is a special circumstance that warranted his client to have bail to travel to the UK for the eye operation, as he risks losing his eye sights. “In fact, your worship, tendering the travelling clearance issued to the accused person from the police, and leave letter from his office, are all factors which the court should consider,” she concluded. Responding to the defence counsel’s submission, state counsel Simon Obi told the court that the state was opposing bail for the accused person. “We learned that if granted bail, the accused person would jump bail,” he said. “We have reason why we are opposing bail for the accused person, which we do not want to disclose in the court,” he added. He pointed out that as regards the documents shown by the defence counsel, the state needed time to verify or confirm the documents before any bail. Principal Magistrate Nkea in delivering his ruling stated that the court, after hearing from both sides, believed that the accused person might jump bail by refusing to come back to face trial. He, therefore, ordered the accused person to be remanded in custody at the state central prison at Mile 2. The case was adjourned till 5th January 2011, for the defence to furnish the court with the relevant documents. If this situation is open to critical interpretation, it falls on solid grounds that the woman chairman Jammeh entrusted with keys to Gambia's house of justice was deeply soaked in some serious unjust activities.
Should it trun out that chairman Jammeh threw the unjust judicial minister out due to corruption, then a feather on the hat for chairman.
But how many more are lined up? Well done chief Jammeh on this occasion. |

The electrical broom is sweeping fast. They are the ones lying for Jammeh because of the office he offered which they knew would never last. Weldone your excellency. Justice must take its cause.Chaka have you heard. One of your own fellow JAMMEHRITES in the dock! I don't have to tell you who is former Attorney General and Minister of Justice Marie Saine-Firdaus do I? The oppositions are still counting your cercrifises and the price you later paid.Pray Jammeh makes you all pay for your crimes before somebody else does because maybe he may have a little bit of mercy for you than the people you have wronged during the cause of your service to Jammeh. |

Menning menning Taafal Taafal Tonya lay beh Labannah!!! The truth shall always prevail... Marie Saine was used, dumped and now charge with economic crimes???
Remember Fafa Edrisa Mbye, Yankuba Touray, and now JT Kujabi just to name a few??? Same thing. They don't only remove and humiliate you, but they ensure that your image is stained as well in the Gambia!
I wonder why the UN keep employing these people if they are that corrupt???hmmmmmm
Gambians be wary of your temporary appointments for this regime in the name of serving your country... It doesn't work and you end up being used to serve some personal interest!!!
Don't you see the economic crimes only happens outside of the State House and the Central Bank?. What a smart people!!! |

True, true, Baldeh
It all appears nice while under one roof. When the shelter is gone off anyone, then it all turns sour. Marie will now learn to lick her eyes thinking it is her fingers. She will wish Yaya falls dead and Chief Ebrima Manneh comes back to life. She now hates Yaya but had already written a letter of felicitations, congratulation, and jubilations for letting her serve this great republic in the capacity of JUSTICE MINISTER. Now she is named as most UNJUST. Who is next?
Baldeh, to agree with you more, they will never leartn from this. Like vultures flying over dead animals, soon another PATRIOT will join the line. |

Brothers Karamba,Dbaldeh, It doesn't matter if they learn or not the EVIL THAT MEN DO LEAVES AFTER THEM but in some people's case, GOD does not even wait they see it there and then. While chief Manneh is crowned a hero for his motherland and journalism, Firdaus is arranged as a criminal who selfishly betrayed for position and cash. ONE BYE ONE the Devils would fall and the one who takes their places and chose to be devils they too shall fall even a heavier fall than their predecessors.Human beings are God's comodities and any fellow Human who tries to play with human life or dignity, shall get public humiliation one day or even in death you shall have your share. |

Exactly Janyanfara...we shall reap what we sow.. and not only that... our minds and brains are gifted to us to use to learn our surroundings and adapt wisely. This is what separates humans from the beasts!
In the absent of the use of our minds and brains we can no longer claim any better than the animals in the forest..
As the fula proverb says "Wonnah ko Mai tan Yurmeney" direct translation... Not only the dead are worthy of smypathy..
Dr. King added "If you can't find something to die for, then you ain't worth living"
Many of our people have reduced themselves to just that... commodities to be used and discarded!!! they might as well face the consequencies.
Thanks much to you and brother Karamba. |

I feel sorry for Ma Marie, as we used to call her during school days, but you know what she prepared the bed; she must now lie on it. |

With your kind permission DBaldeh, I Quote:
Dr. King added "If you can't find something to die for, then you ain't worth living"
This statement contains messages not just one piece of solid information. One way of using this as a remedy to the menace caused by the cruel thug and heartless bully Yaya Jammeh is by standing firm against him.
To you specially DBaldeh, keep this position of firm refusal and and tuff resistance against the inhumane person of Yaya Jammeh.
Baldeh, if these deluded creatures supporting Yaya ever thought they have it in them to cow anyone, the other numbers have gone beyond their narrow minds.
We are not going to let Yaya Jammeh steal our rights. Down with all forms and manner of brutality. |
