Thanks Watchman... I was looking for these exact words to warn some folks who firmly believe that anything with the name "university" is good enough. These online "universities" and diploma mills should be clamped down on.... they are rapidly dumbing down society.

I've met several "yea-yea men" who confidently go about disturbing the peace after "bagging" their so-called "university education."

If USA/Europe are harder to pay, to get visa, there are other options as well. I would suggest alternatives like Turkey, Malaysia, Korea. I was just talking to a Senegalese girl studying engineering (graduate) in Istanbul this morning. Tuition, living expenses are much cheaper.

diaspora! Too many Chiefs and Very Few Indians.

Halifa Salah: PDOIS is however realistic. It is fully aware that the Gambian voters are yet to reach a level of political consciousness that they rely on to vote on the basis of Principles, policies and programmes and practices.

Great and timely warning Mr. Watchman. In fact as you rightly stated this does not only affect students in the US but even students in EU especially in the UK...

It is not unusual for some relative to call and say can you help me pay for this diploma or certification. For the most part these are only that certification without the practical skills that comes with the study...

I have long been baffled by the institutions in the West and even some Western governments under educating our young men and women only to release them back to our countries to become top policy makers... The whole scholarship awards from some Western governments and institutions should be re-evaluated at every level...

but hmmm... how could they if the very people sitting there don't know?

A case in point of a personal experience... an air traffic control course in the UK or US at minimum should last for two years... but our colleagues are trained for six months and released to become controllers in Banjul... Yes, you can handle low air traffic in Banjul but there is more to it than just handing flights...

Another issue on this... and I stand to be corrected is that a lot of friends spend six months to a year to obtain their Masters degrees sometimes double masters especially in the UK. There are several of these people going back with the credentials but without the technical skills to be effective on their professions...

I know this is a whole new topic but you are absolutely right people should be careful about ill training and accumulating debt upon debt without the professional training to secure the jobs...

As far as I know in the US you cannot obtain a credible bachelors degree in less than four years of school... you cannot obtain your graduate degree unless you specialized on a certification in less than two years... So thank you for bringing this important subject to our readers... no wonder most of our elites are ill educated and can hardly invent anything or implement effective policies...

Thanks for a great topic... keep it up
