GPU-USA Celebrates Deyda’s 6th Anniversary

Please tune to the Freedom Radio to listen to the GPU-USA’s panelists –Baba Galleh Jallow (Author of Mandela’s Other Children and former SG of the GPU-USA), Pa Samba Jow (Human Rights Activist and former SG of the GPU-USA), Alieu Badara Sow (Journalist and active member of the GPU-UK), Demba Baldeh (Editor of Gainako and doubles as current SG of the GPU-USA), Pa Nderry Mbai (Editor and presenter on Freedom News & radio).
This year’s celebration organized by the GPU-USA was centered on Deyda’s life. Deyda Hydara, pioneer of the Point Newspaper alongside Uncle Pap Saine was the editor of the Point Newspaper. On December 16th 2004, on the Point's Anniversary celebration, some gun men in a registered taxi car trailed Deyda on his way home, and shoot him with life bullets. Since then, the perpetrators are not known. The discussion in summation comes to this: The Jammeh administration has a hand in Deyda’s death, by their refusal to investigate the matter, or coming up with a dossier that blamed Deyda’s death on Deyda himself. How ironical is that?
Congratulations GPU-USA on remembering Deyda! It was revealing to hear from the horses’ mouth as to whom actually the late Deyda was. Certainly, Deyda is that hero as attested by people who came in close contact with him. Deyda contributed a lot towards press freedom globally, notably his defiance against the media repressive draconian law that was put in the place by the Jammeh administration. Deyda can be famously remembered for his famous column “Good Morning Mr. President.”
