Dr Taal, an extremely popular lecturer at the University of The Gambia, former Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education and also former managing director of the Daily Observer Company in 2005, passed away on Tuesday in Dakar, Senegal, The Point can reveal........

The death has been announced Wednesday of an acclaimed Gambian intellectual and technocrat, Dr. Alieu Badara Saja Taal, which sad incident occurred in the Senegalese capital of Dakar where he was recuperating from a brief illness.

The passing of Dr. Taal, a one-time managing director of the Observer Company, publisher of the Daily Observer Newspaper, was received with great shock, especially within the government, the academic community and even within the media fraternity. The late Dr. Taal, a senior political science lecturer at the University of The Gambia, was a great asset to the nation, and he will be deeply remembered for his generosity in sharing his sea of knowledge with people, which has impacted positively on the lives of many a Gambian. He was a man who earned the respect of many people for his competence, diligence, meticulous, efficiency and clarity of his tutorials, and this could be highly attested to by his former students as well as the intellectual community........
