Chief executive officer of American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) has told journalists during a recent press briefing that AmCham is preparing to participate in a trade mission in Miami, Florida, United States of America.

Dr. Samba Faal said the mission is meant to explore investment avenues between The Gambia and the United States.

Speaking at a recent press conference held at AmCham office at the West African International School (WAIS) College campus in Kanifing, Dr. Faal outlined the purpose of setting up the American Chamber of Commerce, which he said, was to create and facilitate trade and investment opportunities between The Gambia and the United states.

Abdoulie Touray, founder and president of Sahel Investment Management International and a board member of AmCham-Gambia pointed out AmCham’s primary aim, which is to foster trade and investment and educational opportunities between The Gambia and the United States. “Part of our aims also includes negotiation to have direct flight from The Gambia to USA.”

Mr. Touray recalled that in February, they started to assess the potential and number of Gambians in the United States, saying the number is sizeable and the information they have was that Gambians there contributes significantly to the socio-economic development of the country in different forms. “We feel it is about time we support Gambian in the Diaspora to progressively to come forward as they have had a successful forum at Atlanta.”

He said Florida International University has agreed to partner with AmCham and expressed optimism that The Gambia Higher education could join them. “The purpose of the press conference was to make Gambians aware of what has happened and what is going to happen in the future with our partnership with Miami.”
