Wood harvested in The Gambia should be from sustainable resources in the past MANY old big trees were chopped down and sold for big money,leaving only a small number of hardwood trees in the Gambia,a " business" grew up whereby hardwood trees were sourced from elsewhere through "agents",the present administration rightly stopped this practice,but as wood is not easily identifiable it is possible that unscrupulous persons are still carrying on this "business" leaving the drivers to be in fear of losing their jobs.

QUESTION OF THE DAY
Foroyaa has received reports that trucks carrying wood are being stopped on the road by ECOMIG Forces. It is not clear what is responsible for this act. Gambian drivers carrying locally harvested wood express fear in transporting them.
Foroyaa would contact the Ministry to find out whether there is any directive stopping the transportation of wood harvested from the Gambia.
