Dreaded virus on the prowl
We curse you daily in our prayers
Since you chose to come to us the poor
Sat in depravity and helplessness
That is a war you started on a people
A battle of utter attrition too
Against a people so deprived

With no prepared modes of countering your onslaught
Our people sit and wait daily
For news that you have arrived
Then we commence the rituals of quarantine
Burials and recriminations
Blaming the other person for being the source
All the while you kill without remorse
As there is as yet; no cure known for your ailment of our bodies

Is this a curse from above
Is it a wakeup call to repent
Whatever it is
This pandemic is scary as it is seemingly unstoppable
So we sit and wait in total despair
To die and be dumped as refuse in deep pits
For fear of contaminating the living

Ah bother this life is so unfair
But the solace we get is that we die
As all living beings shall die one day
Let us pray that this finds us as righteous beings
But as we wait
Let caution be the watchword
Wash hands and avoid unnecessary handshakes
Ensure proper hygiene in all that we do
Especially in what we share around
Report any suspected cases and know that hiding
Such isn't an escape route
But an invitation for this killer virus
To our homes

Those who can; should share some funds
Sending medical wipes and solutions
Even a little donation to a medical base
Back home would in some way be of help
Let not our political schisms show on this front
For Ebola won't recognise
Who is from whichever party
It will kill all
Without discrimination
So help us God Amen

Kaanibaa, an excellent poem..

A very basic unforgetable poem should be up in every educational/ health establishment

(taken from the poem)
i.e Let caution be the watchword
Wash hands and avoid unnecessary handshakes
Ensure proper hygiene in all that we do
Especially in what we share around.

And street hoardings should have a reminder to the community similar to that of the HIV.

Indeed brother it's dreadful and as it has no known cure we have a huge problem...just reminded me of the deadly dengue fever which caused so much deaths some where in South America..was it Brazil ?
