WOMEN NEED SPECIAL PROTECTION THE DEMAND FOR FREE MATERNITY RELATED TREATMENT
EditorOctober 24, 2014

A mother who had a premature child continued to experience post natal problems on a periodic basis. She is overwhelmed by the sheer cost of getting periodic medical treatment. Recently, she was refereed to do HSG scanning and had to pay 1,625 dalasi. She would want to know whether there is any concession in providing maternity related treatment.

Any country which intends to implement the Millennium Development Goals which aim to cut down maternal mortality by three quarter by 2015 would introduce free prenatal and post natal medical care as long as the mother is taking care of an infant or child of up to 5 years.

The Ministry of Health should look into this proposal to save lives. Women bear children for society. Hence they need the protection of society.
