PHOTO OF THE DAY: Nice photo of popular fish in abundance in West Coast of Africa at mouth of Atlantic Ocean, a very valuable commercial species for the fisheries of West Africa, in The Gambia and Senegal commonly given, known or have only three names ("Kobo" in Wollof, "Chaalooo" in Mandinka & "Bonga" by Ghanians), a tasty bony fish, exported to sub-region, Europe, America dried or smoked and the cheapest fish you can buy in The Gambia but price dictated by economic conditions

WHAT IS ENLISH NAME OF THIS SPECIES OF FISH I have eaten it lifetime but never knew English name or bother to ask

WELCOME TO VISIT THE GAMBIA, SMILING COAST AND ENJOY THESE PALATABLE LOCAL DISHES AMONG MANY. FEW BONGA DISHES

You can use Bonga,or Tilapia,or really any type of fish to make fish "Yassa" or fish balls and create a delicious stew serve with rice or without rice

English name Herring generally for Bonga (and slightly similar to Atlantic thread herring but Bonga fish is scientifically a special fish of its own genus.)

Nigeria Agbodo Fish (for bonga)
