Someone ask me about the cultural/ethnic origins of these two African proverbs but I don't know the answer.
--------quote---
I have only seen these cited as "African proverbs." I wonder if you can say more about their cultural/ethnic origins.
"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together."
"How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."
----------end quote-------------

Any help?

I thought this was going to be a simple straight forward answer. Thanks, I will inform the person who asked.

Infact I have a page with some Traditional Proverbs at: http://resourcepage.gambia.dk/proverbsall.htm

1. The first proverb applies like "United We Stand! Divided We Fall!" for Gambia fragmented battered opposition front and a wise quote to think about; for solutions to impasse

2.Second proverb ""How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time."; considered "a simple children’s joke" or "old joke" but interestingly applied by a blogger ("Plimtuna with view on life and the reading of the Word of God") for Bible lessons, strongly recommended for christian community and anyone interested to study the Bible ("seem like a large elephant too large to eat or read") under 1 Year, 1 Book, Many People

QUOTE EXTRACTED;

"This one especially!

If you want to travel fast, go alone.
If you want to travel far, go together.

This proverb is from the N’gambai people, and these words have been on my mind for a few weeks now. In sending this quote, my sister’s timing was impeccable. We had just arrived home from our trip to Namibia."

However if you try to search N'gambai people, Gambia is downloaded and not Namibia. It's closer to information from WIKIPEDIA Ngambay language

1. EMPOWERING LEARNERS: "If You Want to Go Fast, Go Alone. If You Want to Go Far, Go Together." OR "If you want to travel fast, go alone. If you want to travel far, go together." SOURCE - An African Proverb quote "This proverb is from the N’gambai people" or Gambia

2. Momodou. Posted by Ann Sponberg Peterson. Go to SOURCE and post a comment for further information about "N’gambai people" from blogger because google & bing search engines always downloads "Gambia" for my query of "N’gambai people"

3. WIKIPEDIA Ngambay language

Hope information provided helpful
