Cattle are often seen roaming across Roads in Gambia, this unfortnate accident highlights an event that can take place if vehicles come into contact with cattle who are not the brightest of creatures,I wish those injured a full and quick recovery.

DAILY OBSERVER NEWS Works minister extends gratitude to Jammeh

Monday, June 09, 2014

The Transport, Works, Infrastructure and National Assembly Affairs minister, Balla Garba Jahumpa, has thanked the president of the Republic for endorsing and facilitating his overseas treatment.

Jahumpa, known as ‘Action Man’, recently returned from the Kingdom of Spain where he underwent medical treatment for injuries he sustained in a car accident during the 2014 presidential tour of farms and agricultural fields across the country.

In an interview with the Daily Observer, he thanked the head of state for the support he extended to him during his treatment, saying his family deeply appreciated this gesture and prays for Jammeh’s longevity, good health and prosperity....Full Report

UPDATE: Kairo Online News Balla Jahumpa Still In Hospital

Kairo News sources have confirmed that the Gambia’s Minister of Transport and Infrastructure is still admitted at Madid hospital. This contradicts an earlier report published on the pro-government Daily Observer that Bala Garba Jahumpa was released from hospital.

Mr. Jahumpa was airlifted to Spain for further medical treatment last month after his car was involved in an auto crash. Jahumpa, who was on a country-wide tour with President Yahya Jammeh, was reported to have fractures in his backbone. Jammeh’s annual meet the people’s tour has been punctuated with fatal accidents, this year being no exception as evidenced by the knocking to death of a Sandu Misera by a vehicle on tour with Mr. Jammeh.

“I can confirm that Balla Garba Jahumpa is still in hospital,” our source insisted. “Mr. Jahumpa had been in a coma for more than 24 hours after the accident. He opened his eyes and started talking at the hospital,” our sources said, adding he is recovering even though it will take some time before he fully recovers. “It is not true that Balla Jahumpa is released from hospital,”our source confirmed, questioning why the Daily Observer would jump to conclusion on what is not true. “It’s the usual propaganda the Observer has been known for.”

FOROYAA EDITORIAL: THE CLAIMS AND COUNTER CLAIMS REGARDING MR BALA JAHUMPA’S FATE

Published on Friday, 02 May 2014 | Written by Ousman Njie

When a state does not have a machinery to disseminate information that is of public concern, rumours and speculation do take the place of news. People who have been following the President’s tour are calling on the family of the Minister involved in the accident to get an indication as to whether the information in the public domain is true or not.

The speculation would not have started if there was constant and consistent information flow from the executive to the population regarding the fate of the Minister.

The executive must either empower the Ministry of Information to carry out such a function, or employ a director of press to give information which is of relevance to the public. It needs to be emphasised that public figures are public figures.

There should be no secrecy governing their fate while performing their public functions.

A government should issue public notices in such cases and prevent speculations and rumours from spreading.

Balla discharged

Monday, April 28, 2014

Highly placed sources have told the Daily Observer Sunday afternoon that the minister of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, Balla Garba Jahumpha has been ‘discharged’ from a Spain hospital where he was receiving treatment after sustaining injuries in a car accident during the president’s current Dialogue with the People Tour.

The Gambian diplomatic mission in the Kingdom of Spain through the ambassador, H.E Lang Yarbo, also confirmed to this paper Sunday that indeed the minister, widely known as “Action Man”, is alive and kicking after his discharge yesterday.

Later in the day, the Daily Observer also managed to speak directly to Balla Garba Jahumpha via telephone, who confidently said: “I am okay, in fact I am watching a football match right now. So everything is okay thank God.”

This development has dispelled negative comments whirling in town in the past two days about the health of Minister Garba Jahumpha, thus discrediting the unfounding rumors.
