Helsinger Lille Skole is a Lower Basic School from Denmark that established a link with Kuntaur Upper Basic School in 1997. Since then, Kuntaur Upper Basic School has been benefiting a lot from their Danish friends, including exchange visits. During their visit, they presented some teaching and learning materials, including tools for the technical departments, home science department of the school and also clothes to the community of Fula Kunda. The items that are worth over D150, 000 were presented during a ceremony held at the school grounds. Speaking on behalf of the regional education directorate, the principal of Niani Senior Secondary School, Momodou Kanyi applauded the donors for complementing government's efforts in providing such materials to the schools. He said the donated materials, if well- utilised would improve the skills of young people in the area. The principal of Kuntaur Upper Basic School, Lalama Manneh commended the Danes for the philanthropic assistance they have been rendering to the school. He underscored the importance of the donated materials, saying that they will go a long way towards supplementing government's efforts in the improvement of the skills of young people. He disclosed that the link was established in 1997 and was pioneered by one Muhammed Camara, a native of Fula Kunda. He dislosed that they are sponsoring 14 students, adding that this will ease the burden on parents in the payment of school fees for their children. Manneh urged the students to make the best use of the opportunity accorded to them. He told the gathering that the performance of the school in the technical subjects have improved, attributing it to the support given by the Danes. The pioneer of the link, Kanimang Camara, spoke extensively on the importance of education, noting that well-educated citizens contribute immensely to the socio-economic development of their nation. He called on the youths in the area to acquire skills training in order to become independent and self-employed. He asserted that most of the youths see the acqusition of skills as something degrading. Camara therefore challenged them to take skills training with seriousness, as according to him, it can become a lucrative job. Speaking on behalf of the visitors, Jens Hoee thanked their hosts for the warm welcome accorded to them, saying that they would learn a lot from each other during their visit, including a cultural exchange. Among several speakers were the chairman of the school management committee, Alhagie Sulayman Jawo, deputy principal of the school, Omar Cham and Mariama Jaiteh. The Dannish students Mads Iversen and Mathilde Grangaard laid the foundation stone of the staff room. The occasion was chaired by Sait Fall, the head teacher of Kuntaur Lower Basic School.
