Lamin Sanneh, the CEO of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has disclosed that the upcoming OIC Summitís infrastructural priority projects are valued at $260m.

Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday October 23, 2018, at the OIC Secretariat at the Petroleum House in Bijilo, Mr. Sanneh said the projects include the construction of 100kms of road; construction of 60 Royal and Presidential villas to house the visiting heads of state; 400-bedroom 5 star hotel and a VIP lounge at the airport to augment facilities at the already existing conference centre.

ďA procurement of luxury cars for the heads of state and royal guests as well as reinforcing of water and electricity infrastructure within OIC Impact Zone and the renovation and face-lifting of the airport terminalĒ he added.

He further commented that hosting of the OIC Summit in The Gambia is no longer a dream but a reality that has dawned on The Gambia.

The secretariat has written to 17 OIC member countries of which 10 countries have been visited and consultations are ongoing, he said, adding that The Gambia has received firm commitments from some member states and consequently the secretariat has published adverts in the newspaper inviting expression of interest for both consultancy services and contractors to bid on key projects to be embarked on by the state as per the OIC mandate.

He revealed that the secretariat would be embarking on a nationwide tour to sensitise the public on the role of the secretariat and what is expected of the host country during the summit.

He noted that the process will not be limited to road shows but will also include radio and television shows over the course of the projectís life.

He concluded by urging the general public to support and cooperate in facilitating and supporting the hosting of OIC 2019 Heads of State Summit.
